Although there has been much talk about the USB 3.0 technology and its significant advantages over previous versions, many end-users are likely still in the dark as to their exact options when trying to acquire a product using such a connection. To illuminate those interested in such things with the answers to how and why the USB 3.0 is better than the 2.0 and previous versions, Gigabyte has launched a new microsite dedicated to this technology and the company's line of supporting motherboards.

The site not only explains the advantages of the otherwise self-explanatory ten times better connectivity capabilities boasted by NEC's latest USB interface, it also provides those accessing the website with the complete list of compatible Gigabyte motherboards and even provides information on some third-party USB 3.0 devices. The microsite also helps in finding hardware that is capable of handling the SuperSpeed USB.

"Gigabyte currently offers 11 USB 3.0 motherboard models that cater to a wide range of high-end and mainstream price points and preferences, and we're planning on launching several new entry level models in the near future so that more Gigabyte motherboard users will be able to benefit from SuperSpeed data transfer," said Tim Handley, Deputy Director of Motherboard Marketing at Gigabyte Technology. "We hope to work with every USB 3.0 device vendor to ensure compatibility and the best quality products and experience for our customers."

Unfortunately, the actual family of USB 3.0-supporting motherboards still has rather few members and even the consumer electronics market hasn't had time to see the birth of many products based on the new standard. Still, Gigabyte is listing several upcoming motherboards, besides those that have already been released. This means that the future will still see the USB 3.0 support rising, even if not at the rate end-users might hope for.

The microsite may be accessed through the following link and Gigabyte's official announcement may be found here.
