Gigabyte, a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards, has just announced its new, revolutionary Ultra Durable 3 technology, which is going to be enabled on several of the company's motherboards built on Intel's P43 and P45 chipsets. The underlying innovation of the new technology developed by the Taiwanese manufacturer is that this is the first desktop motherboard designed to incorporate two ounces of copper for both the Power and the Ground layer.

Gigabyte's Ultra Durable 3 (UD3) technology has been designed to enable desktop computer systems to run cooler. According to the company, the motherboards equipped with the new UD3 technology were able to deliver up to 50 degrees C cooler working temperatures, as compared with traditional mobos. This was achieved by using two ounces of copper for the Power and Ground layers, whereas standard motherboards only feature a single ounce of copper for each of them.

In addition to introducing its new technology, the company has also announced that its P45 motherboards, which deliver support for DDR2 memory up to 1366MHz+, will also be featured with UD3. Also, the yet to be unveiled X58-equipped Extreme mobo will benefit from the advantages brought about by the newly developed technology, thus presenting system builders and users with one of the highest-performance platforms to be released on the market.

Gigabyte also approached the topic of its new Quick Boost technology, a software application designed to provide 3 levels of CPU performance enhancement. The technology will basically allow novice and experienced users alike to fully benefit from the overclocking capabilities of their system's CPU. Quick Boost will be available with the company's P45 and P43-enabled mobos, although Gigabyte could also provide this technology for some of its upcoming motherboards, including the lineup of X58-based solutions.

So far, no specific details on pricing or availability of the new and improved P45 and P43 mobos have been made available. Keep an eye on this space for when they are.
