It appears that gigabyte is paying attention to more than just the entry-level video card segment, as its website now features the product page of a Barts-powered card that should soon show up for sale.

End-users may or may not know that Gigabyte is preparing an entry-level Radeon HD 5670 graphics card equipped with DDR3 memory instead of GDDR5 VRAM.

What they may not yet know is that the same company is also preparing a new version of the still strongest available HD 6000-series graphics adapter from Advanced Micro Devices.

Though not yet sighted online, the new product that the company is working on bears the name of GV-R687OC-1GD.

Essentially, it is a new incarnation of the Radeon HD 6870, one with both factory overclocking and a special cooling device.

The cooler here used is the WindForce 3X, where 3X stands for the existence of three fans. The cooler also has the advantage of several copper heatpipes.

With superior cooling effectiveness available, Gigabyte went ahead and pushed the GPU clock a bit higher than AMD's reference solution did.

Basically, the Barts processor has an operating frequency of 915 MHz, whereas the 1 GB of GDDR5 works at 4,200 MHz.

The card also features a memory interface of 256 bits and CrossFireX support, plus dual-DI, HDMI and two mini DisplayPort outputs.

Of course, DirectX 11 graphics are fully supported, as are OpenGL 4.1, Shader Model 5.0 and the Avivo HD technology.

Finally, the product complies with the RoHS specifications and boasts the Ultra Durable 3 PCB (printed circuit board) design.

Unfortunately, not sort of pricing or availability details are known at this time, though online vendors shouldn't take too long in listing the graphics controller.

Until that happens, interested consumers need only drop by this page if they wish to get a first-hand view of all available information.
