This past Saturday, a female giant panda living in a Chinese breeding center successfully delivered its fourth cub so far. Immediately after birth, the animal is seen picking up its offspring in its mouth and carefully placing in on its belly, where it can keep it safe and lick it clean.

Although the mother panda did handle the cub with extreme care, veterinarians stepped in and took the baby panda from it.

Their goal is to run tests to make sure that the cub is in good health, and to keep it in an incubator at least until the risks of something bad happening to it are at a minimum.

Given the fact that pandas are only now beginning to make a recovery in terms of their worldwide population, it comes as no surprise that considerable efforts are made to keep cubs alive whenever one happens to be born in captivity.
