The adorable creature pictured above is a giant otter pup born at River Safari in Asia about two months ago, on August 10.

Apart from the fact that people who look at it for too long risk OD-ing on cuteness, what makes this pup so very special is that it is the first of its kind to have ever been born in all of Asia, Zoo Borns reports.

Presently, the male pup weighs nearly 3.5 pounds (1.6 kilograms), and measures about 2 feet (0.6 meters) from head to tail. Its caretakers say that, once it reaches adulthood, it will probably weigh some 75 pounds (34 kilograms) and measure about 6 feet (1.8 meters) in length.

Conservationists explain that, for the time being, giant otters are one of the most endangered otter species in the world. This is because humans have destroyed large portions of their natural habitats, and have also hunted them for their fur.
