GhostBSD, a FreeBSD-based operating system that relies on Xfce, LXDE, MATE, and OpenBox desktop environments, is now at version 4.0 Beta 2.

The developers of GhostBSD have released yet another development version and it looks like we might get a final build soon.

According to the changelog, rsync has been fixed and it’s now able to avoid copying the tmp and mnt folders during the installation, Networkmgr has been updated to version 0.5 prerelease, users who omit the root(/) partition will be warned by a window dialog, the GBI partition Editor has received a lot of tweaks, GBI is now partitioning during the installation, and the network with “Live Image” should now work under VirtualBox or VMWare Workstation.

A number of problems are still present, but they should be fixed soon. For example, Xorg fails to load on the MATE desktop for some Intel and ATI devices.

The distribution is available for both the 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. Check out the official announcement for more details about this release. You can download GhostBSD 4.0 Beta 2 right now from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
