Sniper: Ghost Warrior was a rather divisive game, with some players and reviewers liking the focus on covert sniper operations while others called the gameplay limited and criticized the look of the game, but the developers at City Interactive are ready to show what their series could deliver in the sequel, which is planned for launch in 2012.

Michael Sroczynski, who is a designer working on the Ghost Warrior series, told IGN that, “The first Sniper: Ghost Warrior was a tremendous sales success for us. In fact we just announced last week that we have sold over 2 million copies since we released the game. The sales performance combined with the positive user feedback that we gathered confirmed to us that there is a strong interest in the gaming market for sniping based shooters.”

He added, “In developing the original Sniper: Ghost Warrior, we had some technological limitations that prevented us from implementing some of our team's design ideas. However, once we announced that we would be making the sequel using the CryEngine3 – the team got very excited. We knew we could now bring ideas to reality and take the sniping experience to the next level.”

The developer says that much of the feedback that the fan community has offered has been included in the game and that the team is always talking to the 250,000 people who have liked the Facebook page for Ghost Warrior 2 and are engaging with the developers.

Based on player preference the team at City Interactive was ready to make some tough choices and eliminate some features from the game altogether so that it can focus on developing those aspects of the game that proved popular.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 will be launched in the middle of March and will be offered on the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
