Get a taste of what was once a flourishing settlement in California

Undoubtedly, you have heard of the town of Bodie, California. If you haven’t you should know from the start that it is a ghost town.

In fact, it is the best preserved ghost town in California, located in the Bodie Hills east of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Mono County.

Bodie was a mining camp established in 1859 by a group of prospectors seeking gold (W.S. Bodey was among them). In 1962, it became Bodie State Historic Park and is currently under the administration of the California State Parks, with around 200,000 yearly visitors.

Once a flourishing location, all that is left of it now includes empty houses and deserted streets, just as in any other ghost town.

Even so, it does have its own charm, especially when visited in the middle of a summer day, when the sun is high up in the sky.

Those who can’t visit it, regardless of their reasons, can now have a look at what it has to offer, courtesy of a new theme available for Windows 7 computers.

And if the name of ghost town does not give you shivers, the fact that all the photos included in this theme were captured in sepia might do that.

The one thing that is certain is that the lack of colors in these images does stress up the fact that you are looking at a ghost town.

“Weathered, abandoned buildings lean in the relentless western sun: It's the famed ghost town of Bodie, California, as captured in rich sepia tones by photographer Tracy Hymas in this free Windows 7 theme,” Microsoft notes.

The theme was meant for all computers that run under 7 Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate editions.

However, the same as the other themes for Windows 7, users running Windows 8 Developer Preview on their computers should be able to install the theme without issues.
