After extensive alpha and beta tests, Ubisoft has just rolled out Ghost Recon Phantoms, formerly known as Ghost Recon Online, onto the PC platform via Steam, bringing all sorts of big changes over the previous versions.

Ghost Recon Online was presented as an online shooter grounded within Ubisoft's Ghost Recon universe, filled with all sorts of high-tech gadgets and weapons that change the traditional shooter encounters within in.

The game went through extensive alpha and beta tests on the PC platform via Ubisoft's uPlay service and now it's been renamed and re-launched for PC via Steam as Ghost Recon Phantoms.

This overhauled version of the title introduces all sorts of major changes, from a fresh backstory for the whole conflict, to a better matchmaking system, a new user interface, or improved graphics.

Players are treated to better weapons and more customization options for their guns via a new personalization system. What's more, the gear they acquired during the beta will be carried over into Ghost Recon Phantoms, so they can pick up where they left off.

Ubisoft has also confirmed on UbiBlog that the matchmaking system has been overhauled and that more servers will be made available in different parts of the world to ensure a great online experience no matter the region.

"On top of the gameplay upgrades, the matchmaking is far more intuitive now – taking into account not only the level of the players, but also their equipment. Things may not always be fair in love and war, but that doesn’t mean we can’t even out the playing field a little. For a more global experience, Ubisoft will also open servers in Asia, Australia and South America, in addition to the existing servers in North America and Europe," the studio said.

What's more, for those who are attending PAX East this weekend, the Ubisoft booth will be manned with developers of Ghost Recon Phantoms, and exhibition matches are going to take place.

"For PAX East attendees, we will be at the Ubisoft booth where you can meet members of the development team as well as get hands-on time with Ghost Recon Phantoms. We will also be present in other gaming events in Europe, where we will organize exhibition matches between MOBA and FPS pro teams, to demonstrate our unique team-based gameplay," the studio added.

As such, you can now give Ghost Recon Phantoms a free test via Steam. Until the download completes, check out a brand new presentation trailer below.
