Ubisoft confirmed earlier this month that it was renaming Ghost Recon Online into Ghost Recon Phantoms and that the game would receive quite a lot of different improvements before its release on Steam for PC on April 10.

Ghost Recon Online became available last year and delivered a pretty good multiplayer shooter experience that was free-to-play but did have quite a few different problems, as spotted by users.

Ubisoft listened to the community and promised sweeping overhauls to make the whole experience more appealing both to free players and premium ones who spent real-life cash on various things and items.

Ghost Recon Online has now been renamed Ghost Recon Phantoms and is set to debut for the PC via Steam next month.

Before then, Ubisoft detailed on the Ubiblog a few of the massive changes coming to the shooter.

First up, the matchmaking system has been completely overhauled so that matches are way more balanced. The new mechanic doesn't just factor in the level of the player when making matches, but also the equipment they have, so that low-level users with premium gear don't dominate others with low-level items.

New players will also be treated to a special playlist designed for users of up to level 8, and they can access some more powerful weapons, as the first two tiers of guns have been removed. Prices on many different weapons have also been reduced, so it's much easier to equip your soldier in good gear without spending too much.

Last but not least, in order to satisfy players who want to really customize the Ghost Recon Phantoms experience and to show others what gear they have, a brand new personalization system called ModMaster will be added to the game.

More specifically, the system allows players to customize their weapon skins with 10 different designs appearing alongside the game next month, and more scheduled to appear over time.

"We wanted to find a way for players to differentiate themselves on the battlefield and create weapons that fit their style, so we created ModMaster to put that power in the hands of our players. This new system is also more cost savvy for players and creates more than half a million weapon configuration possibilities including fire rate, handling, scope and ready-time," Lead Designer Simon Davis said about the game's new customization system.

Ghost Recon Phantoms goes online on April 10 for the PC platform via Steam.
