French publisher Ubisoft has confirmed that it is developing Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and that it plans to launch the game in time for the holidays. The company has said that development duties are being handled by the Paris studio it owns and that the title should arrive on the PC, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, and the PlayStation 3 from Sony. It also seems that a version of the experience will be delivered on the Nintendo Wii and DS.

Ubisoft has revealed that it plans to offer a beta stage for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier during the summer months for those who pick up Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction for the Xbox 360 when it is launched on April 16. Buyers will get a unique code allowing them to log into the beta and then offer important feedback that will allow the developers to create a gaming experience suited to the expectations of the public.

Ubisoft is saying that “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will go beyond the core Ghost Recon franchise and deliver a fresh gameplay experience, with an unparalleled level of quality that will excite long-time fans and newcomers alike.” It's unlikely that the game will be radically different from what the previous Advanced Warfighter games have offered, considering that the same team is handling development.

Given the Future Soldier concept the game is embracing, the new Ghost Recon will probably be set somewhere in the near future, with the main character using the full extent of the Land Warrior advancements currently researched in the United States. Ubisoft has not offered more details on the plot of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier or on how it will tie up in the wider Tom Clancy universe, which the publisher is creating but given the 2010 release date, we will probably know more before summer comes by.
