14 DAY TRIAL // Though slender – even too skinny, for some – Olivia Wilde says she had to put in a lot of extra hours at the gym to look good in the latex body suit for “TRON: Legacy.” In the latest issue of Women’s Health, the star dishes her workout secrets.
In the film, which is out in theaters in the US today, December 17, Wilde plays Quorra a program in The Grid who’s more like a female warrior than anything.
She’s equally gorgeous and dangerous in combat – but the latter did not come without the extra effort on her part, she says for the fitness magazine.
As fans must know, Wilde is more on the slender side (in fact, she’s often been criticized for being too thin, though she insists she does nothing in this sense) but she still had to train harder for the film.
“I worked with a personal trainer, so I did about an hour of cardio five or six days a week, weight training three times a week, mixed martial arts / fighting three times a week, and that’s a lot more than my normal [routine]!” Wilde shares for Women’s Health.
Of course, the purpose behind all this wasn’t a purely esthetic one. That is, Wilde aimed to do more than just look good in latex: she wanted to create a character that had substance, that was a believable as a warrior.
“The great thing about playing a strong female character is that I feel like I’ve created someone for little girls to look up to,” she says with satisfaction.
Then again, it’s not like the star, who first rose to attention as Thirteen on the immensely successful TV drama “House M.D.,” lives to look good. There are other things more important in life, she says.
“Striving for physical perfection takes a lot of energy. For me it’s important to come home from work, cook a meal with my husband, and spend the afternoon reading a book, instead of always running around,” she says.
Since 2003, Olivia has been married to Tao Ruspoli, son of Prince Alessandro Ruspoli. Technically, she’s a princess but she doesn’t like to think of herself like that, she once said.
