Microsoft is gearing up for the launch of the new Surface tablet with dedicated Facebook and Twitter accounts that would allow the company to share news via these popular online services.

The two accounts are very likely to be used by the Redmond-based software giant for sharing news about the Surface tablet, both before and after the public launch on October 25.

At this point however, there’s nothing too interesting to read on their official websites, but both the Facebook and the Twitter pages have already attracted thousands of fans.

The Surface is Microsoft’s very own bet in an unexplored world, as this is the company’s first tablet and its first step towards a devices and services firm.

Together with this device, Microsoft is also adopting a different marketing strategy and instead of teasing the world with information every once in a while, it’s keeping everything secret and away from the media.

Pricing information for example is one of the biggest enigmas for everybody, but analysts suggest that Microsoft Surface is very likely to be placed in the same price range as Apple’s iPad.

While Microsoft’s fanboys applaud the company’s efforts to develop its own tablet, hardware manufacturers continue to criticize it, as this kind of device could hurt sales of many other companies.

Acer CEO JT Wang, for example, claims that Microsoft has the financial power to kill everybody in the industry with the Surface tablet and suggests that this new product is only supposed to help the company keep up with Apple.

“They are doing something to kill the whole ecosystem,” Wang said. “They have all this cash. They could kill everybody,” he added pointing to Microsoft’s $63 billion (€48 billion) in cash.
