Modern video game are obsessed with offering players a lot of content that can only be used after it is unlocked through gameplay actions and it seems that Battlefield 3, the first person shooter that is developed by DICE and will be published by Electronic Arts, seems to be no different.

Alan Kertz, who is a senior gameplay designer working on Battlefield 3 at DICE, has launched a Twitter message that reads, “If you unlock every weapon, every gadget, and every unlock for every weapon… something like 100 hours.”

The developer has not clarified whether all the unlocks are linked to the multiplayer side of the game but it's likely that those who are only interested in the single player and in cooperative play will never be able to get all the mentioned unlocks.

DICE has not specified exactly how long the single player campaign of Battlefield 3 will be, although company leader Karl Magnus Troedsson suggested that they are aiming for an experience that will take the majority of gamers about 12 hours.

The developers working on Battlefield 3 have already said that they are offering a lot of customization options for the weapons that are included in the game, leading to more than 10,000 possible variations, in order to make sure that all players find a combination they need and that boredom never sets in.

Battlefield 3 is set to be launched on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC in late October.

The game will face tough competition from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision Blizzard.

Much of the success of this series has been linked to its multiplayer mode, which has offered a lot of potential unlocks and quite a few player ranks to climb.
