This week rugged-solution provider Getac is taking the opportunity to roll out an upgrade for its X500 Ultra rugged notebook for professionals working in difficult conditions.

Now, the new laptop arrives with an improved configuration, consisting of either Intel Core i5-4300M or Intel Core i7-4600M under the hood, which boosts performance with over 55%. If more is needed, clock speeds can be increased from 2.9GHz to 3.6GHz, using Turbo Boost technology.

The rugged laptop arrives with a 15.6-inch full HD display that offers 1920 x 1080 resolution. Being a device that’s bound to be used outdoors, Getac has provided a sunlight-readable display.

Getac has upgraded things in the GPU department, where it now offers a GeForce 745M 2GB discrete graphics card that’s expected to provide users with smoother image processing effects.

The X500 provides an extensive plethora of I/O ports that allows professionals to connect a bunch of peripheral devices in order to achieve more with less. The X500 packs two separate gigabit Ethernet ports, two RS232 serial ports, four USB ports, Express Cards and PCMIA expansion slots and both VGA and HDMI video output ports.

The X500 excels in ruggedness, so before making it available to customers Getac has tested it in numerous dangerous environments with flammable gasses and subjected it to drops and shocks. 90% of the laptop is made of rubber, metal and plastic materials, and according to the company, it boasts excellent anti-fungal properties, so the health risks while using the device are eliminated.

The laptop is already available for order with pricing starting at $4,999 / €3,650.
