Though convertible mobiles aren't exactly known for having the highest level of performance, there are still those laptops, even rugged ones, that do possess powerful hardware, and Getac's V200 is proof of this, being able to provide Core i7-level processing while also featuring a rugged chassis.

Intel's Calpella platform has, for quite some time, been the main and, arguably, the only mobile platform generally used by PC makers.

Even AMD only some time ago managed to bring out a number of mobile CPUs as part of the Vision platform.

Now, Getac actually managed to put one of the more powerful Calpella CPUs inside a rugged laptop, the V200.

This machine has the 2.0 GHz Core i7-629LM chip paired with DDR3 memory and the notebook itself boasts a 12.1-inch resistive multi-touch display.

The display also utilizes the QuadraClear technology, which increases its visibility under direct sunlight.

Other specifications include a HDD of up to 320GB or an 80GB SSD, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, 3G, 802.11n WiFi, PCMCIA, a fingerprint reader and a SD card reader.

As for the chassis, it is built out of magnesium alloy and can cope with temperatures of as low as -20 degrees Celsius.

“The new V200 is the most powerful and feature rich fully rugged convertible available,” explains Jim Rimay, president of Getac.

"Its rugged design, fast processor and extensive features and functions make it the most useful, all-purpose tool for field-based applications in the industry," he added.

The machine has a weight of 2.7 kg and a will start shipping next month, backed by a five-year warranty. Unfortunately, its price has not been disclosed.

“Enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing that the V200 is covered by a warranty that includes damage that occurs due to accidental acts and environmental exposure,” the press release states.
