The Gettie Awards 2010 competition hosted by GetJar has been officially launched. The Getties is an event designed to showcase the world’s most successful and innovative mobile applications. This is the only awards event to spotlight top developers across all major platforms in a show attended by the developer elite, investors, as well as technology press. The competition has already started to accept submissions from mobile-application developers around the world.

The Gettie Awards 2010 will take place at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, California on July 12, 2010, from 7 PM. The event will be in conjunction with the MobileBeat annual conference and, amongst others, it will include dinner, entertainment and the award winners ceremony.

A total of 7 awards will be given for: Best Android application; Best Blackberry application; Best iPhone application; Best Java application; Best Symbian application; Best Windows Mobile application; The Gettie Award for best overall application.

Some of the top industry figures together with press representatives and analysts will form the judging panel, which will pick three nominees from each category based on the reviews of their applications. The Gettie Award winner will be selected through a combination of popular vote and the votes of the judges. GetJar has set the deadline for entries on June 25, 2010, later submissions not being taken into consideration for the competition.

The judging panel will be comprised of Rich Wong (Accel Partners), Kevin Thau (Twitter), Mike Rowehl (Silicon Valley Mobile Monday and Chomp), Jessica Dolcourt (CNET), and Matt Marshall (Venture Beat).

“Applications and developers are an essential part of the Symbian ecosystem of over 300 million devices,” Larry Berkin, head of Global Alliances and part of the Leadership Team at Symbian Foundation, said. “With the explosive growth of mobile applications, GetJar has become one of the best venues to obtain the latest mobile applications and winning a Gettie Award from the largest multi-platform app store is a great achievement.”
