GetJar, the second largest app store in the world, recently announced plans to make its entire library of 60,000+ free mobile applications available for Canadian mobile phone users who are customers of Rogers Wireless, and that the solutions would be offered to users at no charge. Canadian users can already enjoy access to GetJar’s massive library of applications via a link available on the Rogers Application page, which can be accessed from the mobile Internet on their handsets.

According to the company, Rogers' customers will be able to access thousands of applications via its portal, including games, sports, entertainment, social networking and productivity software solutions. Moreover, some of the most popular app there, such as Facebook Mobile, Weather Channel Mobile, Fandango, or Snap2Twitter, can be downloaded with ease on a wide range of mobile phones, it seems.

“We are very excited that Rogers is working and cooperating with GetJar to meet the demands of its customers,” said Ilja Laurs, founder and CEO of GetJar. “This agreement, much like our recent announcement with Sprint Nextel, allows Rogers to immediately connect all its customers with over 60,000 free applications with very little effort.”

GetJar’s flexible, open app store approach is already available for users of leading carriers and handset vendors around the world, such as Sprint, Sony Ericsson, 3UK, The Carphone Warehouse and Virgin Mobile France, and now they arrive in Canada for Rogers' users as well. The company provides a series of branded solutions, like those offered for Rogers, along with white label solutions via its app catalog express (ACE) service, GetJar notes.

More than 2,000 mobile phones are supported on GetJar's portal, smartphones and non-smartphones, and the solutions can be used on all major operating systems. Canadian users willing to try out the new offering can access the portal through the Rogers Application page, where they will find a “Free Apps from GetJar” link under Spotlight. However, we should note that data plans are needed for downloading applications, and that data charges might apply for the use of some solutions.
