Save someone's village from evil doers, just so you can get your mitts on the goods

Strap on your amour, assemble a team of fighter minions and head off for a session of serious destruction in the once tranquil area of The Mellow Hills, as Codemasters has released the Overlord playable PC demo, which, of course, is hosted right HERE, at Softpedia.

In this action adventure PC title, players must descend upon the unsuspecting populace and wildlife, use their loyal minions to gather life-force from the somewhat unwilling sheep, grow the size of their minion horde, and let the Halflings-gone-bad know there's a new boss in town. Further on, gamers will be making use of minion upgrades, including pumpkins as minion helmets, throw in some peasant intimidation and a show-down with the Guard Troll and you'll have a taste of the havoc that a minion horde can wreak.

However, Overlord's absolute power will literally corrupt players, who will be more than tempted, and thrilled to explore the possibilities of being evil. I swear it's the best LOTR parody ever. Basically, you will be a regular run-of-the-mill Overlord. But with all this incredible power at your disposal and a team of evil-minded minions, will you be able to resist the temptation of being wonderfully despotic?!

The game of course tracks your badassness throughout your evil intended journey, while how corrupt you become depends on how you handle any given situation, your actions and how their consequences impact the game world. For example, if you and your minion horde dispose of a bunch of particularly nasty, violent Halflings that have overrun a once-peaceful village, the village's original peasant occupants will herald you as their liberator. Now each time you pass through, the peasants will welcome you as their new lord and protector, cheering your arrival and giving you offerings. Offerings, what offerings? Pure, untouched...well, you know...? Naa, it's not that kind of game.

Or is it...? "As an Overlord," says an official report on Overlord, "it's worth seeing what more can be obtained from the peasants' gratitude. If you exert some proper feudal repression, they'll tremble and fall to their knees when you're in town. If you become truly mean, the poor peasants will resort to cowering in your presence, pray for their lives and even offer up their daughters in order to appease you?"

Now that's what I'm talking about! When is this game launching? Scroll... scroll... Bla, bla, bla... Aha! "Overlord, coming summer 2007 for PC and the Xbox 360..." Yesuree Bob! I'm getting me some peasant virgins..., to have a nice conversation about the crops, naturally. Scroll back up for the demo. Fine, don't scroll lazy bones, here it is again.
