The Raspberry Foundation has just released a new version of their own Linux distribution for the Raspberry Pi hardware, called Raspbian, based on Debian.

According to the developers, Sonic Pi is now preinstalled, Scratch has received some significant improvements, a build of PyPy 2.1 is included by default, Python libraries required for interfacing with Pi-Face have been added, and Oracle JDK has been implemented.

Raspbian “Wheezy” is the first Linux distribution to take advantage of the Raspberry Pi’s floating point hardware for, amongst other things, much faster web browsing. A

Raspberry Pi relies on an ARM processor with a clock speed of 700 MHz, 256 MB of RAM, an SD card slot and a 5V Micro USB connector that supplies the power. It also features RCA and HDMI ports.
