There are more expensive ones too, if you want to splurge

Do you have a canine friend? Or a cat? Maybe a turtle? Then today is your lucky day, and so is tomorrow, the day after and every day onward, because PetPrints3D is now in the house. Well, figuratively speaking.

Pets are very loving creatures, especially if you return their loyalty with your own, as well as a modicum of care.

It might get to the point where you'd like to always have a figurine of your dog/cat/whatever with you everywhere you go, or as an ornament on your car's dashboard. Maybe your pet passed away and you want a memento.

In that case, PetPrints3D is here to help. You probably won't believe just how realistic the figurines can turn out.

PetPrints3D pet printing service

A web-based company, PetPrints3D is willing to make both portraits and sculptures of whatever pet you own, so long as you have enough photos of your darling to send in.

To get a print made for yourself, you need to provide some photos, including profile views, close-ups of the face and whatever distinctive features you can think of, like spots, white paws (so-called natural socks if you will).

The images are combined into a portrait that captures a pet's personality, as PetPrints3D explained it. From that portrait is derived the model, a virtual sculpture as it were.

What's left is to send the model to a 3D printer and turn it into a physical thing. You get to select between small, medium and large sizes, but you'll have to be prepared for the price difference if you do, but more on that later. The photo formats supported by PetPrints3D are .TIFF, .PSD, .PNG and .JPG.

How to get a 3D print of your pet

Just head to PetPrints3D and fill out the appropriate forms and boxes. Even if your pet is dead and you don't have as many photos as you need, the company is willing to do its best. However, they might not be able to render them as precisely as they would otherwise do though.

In fact, the final dimensions can vary, even if you choose between the small, medium and large options, because pets have specific attributes (some have huge ears, some are fat beyond words, etc.). The price of a project ranges from $250 / €250 to $1,500 / €1,500.

If your pet is especially hairy, you won't get absolute realism. Still, the samples in the press shots suggest a more than decent aptitude at rendering them.
