Microsoft released a Developer Preview of Visual Studio 11 at BUILD in mid-September, but the Redmond company is hard at work pushing Visual Studio even further than that.

In this regard, the software giant will offer early adopters the chance to test a very early development milestone of Visual Studio Roslyn rather soon.

Developers looking to already get a taste of the future VS evolution even beyond Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview, can do so via the video of the BUILD “Future directions for C# and Visual Basic” session presented by Technical Fellow Anders Hejlsberg.

They will soon be able to do much more than just get an idea of what Visual Studio Roslyn brings to the table from the video mentioned above.

Microsoft plans to release a Community Technology Preview of VS Roslyn in mid-October 2011, which means that it’s going to be here soon enough.

The software giant has yet to reveal the specific release deadline for Visual Studio Roslyn CTP. On top of this, there’s really no telling just when exactly the company will actually make Roslyn available, or the official moniker that will be used.

With Roslyn, Microsoft is providing a new compiler designed to simplify the work for developers leveraging C# and Visual Basic, by introducing some of the flexibility of dynamic languages to the two technologies.

According to the company, Roslyn has been developed with the concept of “Compiler-as-a-Service” at heart. The new compiler also comes with a set of APIs (application programming interfaces) that devs can take advantage of.

Until Visual Studio Roslyn CTP is released, early adopters can still test the Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview and play with the enhancements in C# 5.0 and Visual Basic 11.0. The Windows 8 Developer Preview is also up for grabs for those looking to start building Metro apps by using the new Windows Runtime.
