RUMOURS ABOUT MOBILE PHONES

Get a 150 $ Discount for an iPhone!

- If you sign a 2 year deal with Cingular

I'm sure you remember the rumors about the iPhone wearing a 300 – 400 $ price tag. Today, a Cingular customer got a hold of something else related to the subject of saving your money (at least a part of them) when
buying yourself one of Apple's phones.

When he got himself a new BlackBerry Pearl from a Cingular retail store (together with a 2 year service agreement with the carrier, this being the most important thing in the whole story) the nice sales representative gave him a receipt saying he will have a 150 $ discount when buying an iPhone.

As you can see for yourself in the photo of the receipt Derek Punsalan uploaded on the web for all of us, there is a line that says "iPhone for Derek Punsalan", immediately followed by this: "2 YR Agreement SAVINGS $150.00".

At the moment, not even the person in question knows if he really got hinted about such a deal when the iPhone will come on the market, exclusively on Cingular's network by the way, and he asks everyone that signed a 2 year deal with the mobile operator if they have on their receipts something resembling with what the receipt he got from the sales rep says.

I'm thinking this might be true because, on any other cellphone you get and sign a 2 year contract, there is a significant discount in the deal. Why would the iPhone be anything different?

Could it be because it's manufactured by Apple? It could be a serious reason; remember the conditions imposed by Apple to Cingular before signing the exclusivity deal, conditions that made Verizon not wanting to sign the piece of paper Steve Jobs pushed under their noses.

For now, this remains a rumor and, until other Cingular customers go out in the open and say they also have receipts with the magic "2 YR Agreement SAVINGS $150.00" line on them, the only thing we can do is to wait for more info to come out.
