New exercises for the hi-tech generation

Exercising can get really frustrating sometimes. But if you add something interesting into the context, it can become quite interesting. Take games for instance. Of course, loosing fat while playing games is nothing new. "Exergames" devices are already famous in the entire world (excepting Antarctica maybe). Some of them really helped many people loose wieght while playing games. Even Cartman went nuts after the Wii. Of course, animated characters can't loose weight, but at least their designers are trying to determine them to burn some calories.

The MX9 Workout Master is not actually a Wii console and neither a treadmill. It's an interactive full-body workout machine in which sensors on a platform detect your movements and input them into a monitor. The exercise machine was shown at last week's International Health, Raquet&Sportsclub Association convention in San Francisco. The device is similar to Dance Dance Revolution, the popular video game (produced by Konamy) that lets you imitate the dance steps shown on a screen. But unlike Dance Dance Revolution which involves only foot movements, MX9 requires full body action (Cartman wouldn't try this at home!).

Motivatrix, the company behind the product, hopes that the device will attract many people to the gym (including the Nintendo kids). Here's how it works. The machine's pads have built-in sensors which will read your footwork and also arm flailing while you're busy playing interesting action-orientated games. It also records your performance and it displays the number of burned calories. Done. The machine features plenty of games, exercising and music you can choose from. You can even listen to your own music on the MX9.
