If you are a brand-new Mac user or you just want to know what is worth downloading, the Mac App Store editors have put together an awesome collection of Free Apps.

They are sorted in just two main lists: 19 Apps and 19 Games to get your started. We are not going to present them all because it will be your pleasure to discover them, but we are highlighting some of our favorites.

Most of the ones in the "Free Apps" list are meant to increase your productivity. First one up – Wunderlist, the ToDo manager that is available on all platforms and has been awarded by Apple with the title of "App of the Year." You can use it to create and share shopping lists or to work with your business partners. The Free version can be taken to a new level for a monthly price of $4.99 (€3.69).

You cannot miss Twitter, the official Mac client of the popular Social Network. If you need to consume your news in a more productive way, make sure to get Pocket – the app that will save all the articles you want to read later. Evernote is your "everything drawer" – a great multi-platform app.

Another excellent addition is Alfred – the launcher that has conquered the Mac community. Unfortunately, due to the Mac App Store restrictions, you can only get Alfred 1.2 from here and you have to get the newest one from the developer's website. Apple is beefing up Spotlight to be an Alfred replacement when OS X Yosemite comes, so you can wait for a couple more months and see how that is going to work for you.

Simplenote is a no-brainer. You have to use this app on the Mac and on your iOS devices as a Notes.app replacement. It is the best free alternative you can get.

Skitch or The Unarchiver are the utilities Apple should have created in the first place. But, because all of these are free, make sure you check out the descriptions and install what you need right away.

When it comes to the "Free Games" who can say no to Racing or a good strategy game like "Solstice Arena"? You have 19 different ones to keep you busy after you are done being productive with the above-mentioned apps.
