LittleBigPlanet was one of the most original games that appeared last year for the PlayStation 3. Despite the fact that sales weren't so big, due to the poorly planned launch, as the game appeared at the same time with other blockbuster sequels,
Media Molecule's creation managed to create a pretty big fanbase around it.
This is also due to the fact that the developers have launched almost on a weekly basis new content, consisting of either costumes or resources for the level creator tool, and even new levels, completely different from the ones found in the retail version of LittleBigPlanet. The latest content pack was launched last week, in an effort to celebrate
Valentine's Day with all the players.
Now, it seems that Media Molecule has more things in store for fans, as it has announced a partnership with toy making company Mezco Toyz, in order to release a variety of action figures based on the main character of the game, SackBoy. The first six models will be available as 4-inch figures, but you can expect to see SackBoys ranging from 2 to 18 inches in size later this year.
“The very first LittleBigPlanet merchandise makes its ‘littlebig’ debut this week with a brand new action-figure line featuring an assortment of 4 inch scale Sackboys in all his textured and stitched glory, displaying various characters, poses, and costumes,” reads the official announcement posted on the PlayStation Blog. “Those attending the 2009 International Toy Fair in New York will be among the few who will catch the very first glimpse of the action-figures that will be available at select mass market, specialty and online stores across North America beginning this Spring.”
For people who can't go to the Toy Fair in New York, you can also check out the SackBoys in summer, at the 2009 Comic-Con International Show, which will be held in San Diego. Also, for LBP fans who have been eagerly anticipating the chance to acquire SackBoys and Girls in plushie form, it seems that Media Molecule has a bit more work to do, but an announcement about them will soon be made.
Until we'll be able to play around with a real-life SackBoy, it looks like we're going to stick to the virtual one found in
LittleBigPlanet.
