Take Two announces that some of the titles released in 2008 under its 2K Games brand will have their prices reduced for a promotion period, which goes on until the end of the month.

Until January 31, anyone can go to a special section of the official site of 2K Games and then print the coupon that can be found there. It offers a 10 dollar reduction for a variety of games launched under the brand, like: Civilization Revolution for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Civilization IV: Colonization for the PC, NBA 2K9, NHL 2K9 and BioShock, the PlayStation 3 version.

If you are interested in less hardcore titles, the same coupon can get you a reduction for Carnival Games, Carnival MiniGolf and Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Snow Princess, which were released for the Nintendo Wii and DS.

The main retailers redeeming the coupon offered by Take Two through 2K Games are: Wal-Mart, Target, Kmart, GameStop, Game Crazy, Virgin, Hastings, Meijer, f.y.e., and Fred Meyer. The publisher emphasizes the fact that other game stores could accept the coupon, so try your luck at the one nearest to you. Unfortunately, the coupon cannot be used for online purchases and, at the moment, Take Two has not announced the possibility of reducing the price for games purchased online.

It will be interesting to see whether other publishers will follow Take Two's lead and offer videogame related coupons. Some analysts have already said that, in 2009, the price for some games, especially the older releases and family oriented titles, could be going down, while the charge for AAA releases would remain at 59.99 dollars, for the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 from Sony, and at 49.99 dollars for the Nintendo Wii.
