Samsung is doing what graphics card makers chose to do as well

The promise of free rewards has always been one of the most successful means of getting people to do something, or to buy something they normally would have qualms about.

Samsung's 840 Pro solid-state drives, even with their transfer speeds of up to 540 MB/s, aren't exactly that much better than all the other high-end SSDs in the world.

They are fast, it’s true, and their capacity range of 128 GB to 512 GB is impressive, but there are plenty of other SSDs with matching specifications.

The price range of $170 / 170 Euro to $890 / 890 Euro is just as forbidding as that of rival products.

This all means that Samsung can use all the help it can get in its attempts to differentiate its product line from all other SSDs out there.

The cheaper yet somewhat slower SSD 840 line was a suitable move, with its 120 GB to 500 GB capacity range, and the prices of $140 / 140 Euro to $700 / 700 Euro.

The bolder tactic, however, was the inclusion of a free downloadable copy of Assassin's Creed III with the 128GB, 256GB and 512GB versions of the SSD 840 Pro.

The offer will only last for a “limited time,” so gamers may want to hurry up if they feel like upgrading their systems with faster storage.

“Our new 840 Pro SSDs allow gamers to experience the ultimate in gaming performance by booting their systems quickly, and loading games and other apps in a flash,” said Mike Abary, senior vice president, consumer business division IT product marketing, Samsung Electronics America.

“We're excited to offer 'Assassin's Creed III' to gaming fans with the new 840 Pro SSD, which should make for a real improvement in gameplay.”

For those who want one or more free games but don't want new SSDs, there are, or at least were, some video cards shipping with Assassin's Creed III, as well as some other titles.
