I guess that the Germans have panicked a bit because of all the hackings that took place this year and now they are deploying more and more security measures. This is not a bad thing, but it's sad that hackers had to set examples, for countries to act on
cyber-security...
Anyway, they have an even newer program to protect themselves against any threats coming from the Internet. As NetworkWorld tells us, the German government has agreed to implement a sweeping set of security measures aimed at protecting critical IT infrastructure in the country. I think that the Chinese hackers that have tried to infect gov-t PCs with trojan viruses have sort of "persuaded" them to do this.
And this is no silly maneuver done in a hurry. The Germans have always been known for their exactitude and their "obsession" with always doing things the right way. And this measure has "Fritz" written all over it. The German gov-t didn't just develop a cyber-defense module and threw it to companies. Instead, the IT security policies have been created in cooperation with more than 30 large German companies that offer infrastructure services (electricity, gas, banking, telecom) as seen on NetworkWorld.
Now, these corporations need proper security in order for their systems to operate safely. They are too important to get easily hacked. This is why what the government has done is great. I guess that more countries should take their example and do the same thing, because hackers can sometimes be a threat to national security. Just imagine, in a war situation, what power offline or no communication means for a country!
Other security measures taken by the Germans are the outlawing of hacker tools and the recent idea to use spyware to monitor terrorist activity.
