Canonical, through Carsten Duch, reports that the teuto.net German IT company, which specializes in offering various Linux-based hosting and cloud services, has announced that it has built a new service called teutoStack Public Cloud.

teuto.net's new cloud service is designed from the ground up to offer a broad range of services to customers who are interested in the OpenStack cloud technology created by Canonical, the company behind the world's most popular free operating system, Ubuntu.

teuto.net is being known for its long-term partnership with Canonical as a certified Ubuntu Advantage Reseller and Ubuntu Cloud Partner. And now that Ubuntu has become the first Linux kernel-based operating system to bring "Little Endian" support on IBM’s POWER8 systems, teuto.net has decided to integrate IBM’s new Power systems into its new public cloud service.

Therefore, we can report today that teuto.net's teutoStack Public Cloud service is powered by IBM POWER8 machines that run the Ubuntu Linux operating system, using Canonical's Ubuntu OpenStack distribution. teutoStack Public Cloud uses IBM Power S812L servers as nova-compute nodes.

"We wanted to bring new capabilities within reach of our clients that may not want – or be able – to invest too much into them. For example, analytics applications are in high demand, but are also very resource-hungry. If we could build a cloud-services platform that could deliver the high performance required for capabilities such as analytics at low cost, it could form the basis for a very commercially attractive offering," reads the announcement.

teutoStack Public Cloud will support twice as many virtual environments

Thanks to Ubuntu for POWER8 and PowerKVM, teuto.net estimates that its brand-new teutoStack Public Cloud service will support twice as many virtual environments. The company also brags about the fact that the entire POWER8 integration, including rack installation, was done in less than a half business day.

teuto.net's customers will now be able to use POWER8 systems alongside existing x86-based nodes, but the IBM POWER8 systems based on Ubuntu Linux offer remarkable reliability. The teutoStack Public Cloud service is available today. More details can be found on the company's website.
