A German fisherman has reeled in a 515-pound (233-kg) halibut in July, and it could be a record breaker.

The announcement was made by tour company Angelreisen Hamburg, stating that the catch was reported off the Norway coast.

Marco Liebenow was only equipped with a 19-foot boat (5.8-meter), and the Atlantic halibut was too large to fit inside it.

“The flounder could be towed only with the greatest effort and with great sensitivity to the port,” a spokesperson for the Angelreisen Hamburg said on Facebook.

Liebenow said that it was the “fish of a lifetime” for him, and he worked for 90 minutes to bring it in.

The IGFA world record is yet to be validated, but the fish has smashed the previous record of 419 pounds (190 kg).
