Officers of Germany’s Cyber Crime Competence Center (4C), a unit of the State Criminal Police Office (LKA), have arrested an 18-year-old student suspected of disrupting the official website of the state of Saxony-Anhalt with a distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack.

According to Taz.de, the hacker admitted launching the attack. However, he hasn’t revealed the motivation behind the attack, LKA representatives stated.

Police searched the student’s home in Hamburg and seized various items. Authorities say that the hacker left digital tracks which led them to him. This likely means that he launched the DDOS attack without masking his real IP, allowing investigators to easily uncover his identity.

The attack took place in late August. It disrupted the Saxony-Anhalt website for several hours. In addition, the site’s administrators were unable to upload content for days.
