“Point Break” is one of the referential action movies of the '90s era, one that catapulted Keanu Reeves to instant fame and made him an action star in the eyes of the public. The surfer crime film is now being remade.

Actor Gerard Butler is in final talks for the coveted role of Bohdi, the charismatic surfer/bank robber, THR reports.

For many people that were growing up back in the early '90s, this is a good news because the new “Point Break” is supposed to come out as a summer release under the helm of “Fast & Furious” director Erricson Core.

Much like in the original movie, Butler will be playing an adrenaline junkie named Bodhi, who seeks to find Nirvana by doing outrageous stunts. The only thing that will be different is the screenplay penned by Kurt Wimmer, who has previously worked on “Salt” and “Total Recall.”

For those of you wondering if Keanu Reeves will be reprising his role as lovable and hunky FBI agent Johnny Utah, it's sad news. The actor recently denied any involvement with the new project, leaving Butler to find some other on-screen partner.

The new script takes a departure from the original, setting the action in the international world of extreme sports instead of just basing it in South California. The rest of the plot lines remain similar.
