Together with co-star Jamie Foxx

Although starring such big stars like Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx, the action film / thriller “Law Abiding Citizen” has gotten little press coverage until now, except for a couple of occasional reports of rifts between the main leads for reasons as insignificant as who of the two gets the most ladies. What with the just released first official posters, the name of the film has suddenly made local and international headlines, as FirstShowing says.

Both teasers keep it very simple and efficient: for those familiar with the plotline, they make even more sense. Gerard Butler is Clyde Shelton, a man whose wife and daughter are killed during a home invasion, and who finds himself in the position where he has to take matters in his own hands as the killers of his family are set free. Thus, the teaser with Butler shows the actor frowning towards the camera and looking mighty threatening, while a caption reads in large letters “The System Must Pay.”

On the other hand is Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx), the prosecutor who lets the killers go off easy. The teaser character poster for him reads “Justice at Any Cost,” hinting at the decision Rice has to make sometime in the movie as to who to prosecute: the killers who got off free or Shelton, the man who has taken it upon himself to bring them to justice using their own means (murder, that is). Clean looking and very convincing, thanks to the play of powerful contrasts (black, white and red), the two posters have actually managed to get lots of people interested in the upcoming film, set for release on October 16.

Earlier this year, when the duo were still shooting for the film, word got out in the media that their egos were making it very difficult for them to work together. “Hollywood catfights aren’t just between the ladies! Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler have been going at it on the set of ‘Law Abiding Citizen.’ An insider tells Star, ‘Jamie is jealous of the female attention Gerard gets. And Gerard is annoyed that Jamie’s always jetting off to Vegas to party.’ The Dueling duo even have pet names for each other: Gerard calls Jamie ‘The Fool,’ and he’s known as ‘Ger-tard!’ ‘It’s like high school on this set!’ says the source. Boys will be boys!” Star magazine (the print edition) wrote at the time.

Personal squabbles aside, the one thing that is missing of “Law Abiding Citizen” at this point is an official trailer. Keep an eye on this space for when it’s released.
