Gerard Butler has more than shown his worth as an actor, doing a wide range of films from all genres, from musical (“Phantom of the Opera”) to drama (“P.S I Love You”) and action (“300” and “Gamer”). Still, he sees himself as a normal guy, and so does his mother, who is not even remotely deterred from telling him to do the dishes by jokes that he’s a Hollywood star, as the actor himself reveals in a new interview with the New York Daily News.

The actor is currently working on the romantic comedy / action film “The Bounty,” but, until it gets out, he has to promote two other, equally promising films: the sci-fi, action-packed “Gamer” and the revenge saga “Law Abiding Citizen.” Speaking of the former with the NY Daily News, Butler has also touched upon such topics as having dinner with his family over the Christmas holidays and having his mother force him back to normalcy by asking him to do the dishes.

“I go home and they’ll cook Christmas – dinner, and she’s like, ‘C’mon, give a hand, come on, wash the dishes or put the dishes away.’ And I’m like, ‘Mom, I am a major Hollywood movie star, I can’t be doing this. It’s embarrassing.’” Butler says of how things usually play out every time he returns home to Glasgow. His mother, Margaret, though, is not the kind to take smack from her son – and certainly not the one to be impressed by the “actor” talk, Gerard further explains. “I end up on my hands and knees, wiping up the floor.” he says.

He may come across as the regular type of guy one would likely meet at the pub down the street (if only one could be so lucky), but, as the NY Daily News piece also points out, the truth is that life is madness for Butler right now. Aside from the countless reports on his personal life and how he’s allegedly dating “The Bounty” co-star Jennifer Aniston, it seems that he can hardly take a step in LA without a throng of paparazzi hot on his heels. Though troublesome, the paps also make for a lovely way to pass the time when idle, the actor tells the publication.

“Dealing with paparazzi, he says, is one of the toughest things to get used to. They materialize suddenly, one recently catching – Butler sitting outdoors at a restaurant and telling the actor that he wanted to snap him in the act of eating. ‘It was almost like holding out a [stick] for a dog,’ says Butler, laughing at the memory. ‘Every time I got my fork, he picked his camera up, so I put it down again and he put his camera down. Then I’d pick it up again.’ This went on for 15 minutes. ‘The only time I could eat was when a bus went past or a truck. Then literally the truck would stop and I go boom, boom, boom and I’d shovel the food in,’ he said demonstrating frenetically with an imaginary utensil.” the NY Daily News writes.
