14 DAY TRIAL // It’s not uncommon to see celebrities like Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, or Heidi Klum posting selfies on Twitter and Instagram meant to show off their toned body and / or insane fashion. Geraldo Rivera, who is 70 years old and a newbie at this selfies thing, has also joined their ranks.
The television personality posted online the photo attached to this article over the weekend, clearly desirous to let his fans and followers (and the world at large) know that he was still fit as a fiddle.
“70 is the new 50. Erica and family are going to be so [upset]... but at my age...” he tweeted, knowing only too well what he was getting into.
However, perhaps not even he anticipated that the photo would go viral so quickly.
It has been removed from Rivera’s Twitter feed since, but one message seems to hint that he got into a lot of trouble for it.
“Note to self: no tweeting after 1am,” he writes.
In a statement to E! News, Rivera’s wife explains that, while the selfie was pretty embarrassing, she won’t deny that he’s in amazing shape, even for a guy 20 years younger.
“This is exactly the kind of thing that happens when I fall asleep first...Thank god we have towels in the bathroom. But I'm proud my husband looks so hot!” she says.
She mentions the towel because it’s the only thing protecting Geraldo’s modesty in the photo. It’s not seen in the pic attached because it’s been cropped.
However, not everybody was as pleased as Geraldo’s wife that he suddenly decided to show off his figure on social media, the same outlet points out.
Jackée Harry, Lena Dunham, and Chrissy Teigen, for instance, said that some things are best kept private, no matter how ripped you might be.
Of course, not everyone commenting on the photo agrees with them.
