The defense team of acquitted murder suspect George Zimmerman is asking the state of Florida to cover part of the legal costs for his wrongful prosecution.

They are asking for $200K-$300K (€150K - €225K) in expenses, which does not cover the cost of lawyers.

The Sun Sentinel estimates that Zimmerman's total costs range between $1 to $2 million (€748K - €1,5 million).

Attorney Mark O'Mara states that the state should take care of the $200K (€150K) bill that covers primarily expert-witness costs, travel and deposition payments. However, he is convinced that he will only be getting a quarter of that.

"What he did that night, was absolutely self-defense," O'Mara says.

He believes that Special Prosecutor Angela Corey should be asked to pay the money for making a mistake.

He also argues that Corey's lead prosecutor, Bernie de la Rionda, took Zimmerman to trial without any evidence to support a murder or manslaughter charge.
