As his first international tour in many years is making fans all over the world happy that they never stopped believing, George Michael manages to create another media frenzy by smoking and praising marijuana use in a recent interview.
Before singing in Madrid, Spain, a reporter from the British ITV 'The South Bank Show' wanted to ask the singer a few questions about his alleged drug consumption, a spokesperson for the network said. The 43-year-old performer did not hesitate in answering all the questions, and more.
Lighting a joint right in front of the camera, Michael proceeded to talking about the advantages of being a marijuana user. 'This is the only drug I've ever thought worth of taking but you have to wait. It never occurred to me to take even this until I was about 22 or 23. This stuff keeps me sane and happy. I could write without it... if I were sane and happy. I would say it is a great drug - but obviously it is not very healthy. You can't afford to smoke it if you have got anything to do. Anything at all would be foolish', he told interviewer Melvyn Bragg.
After the network's spokesperson confirmed to the media that, indeed, George Michael did and said all of the above, he added that little blame can be attached to his behavior, considering that the footage was shot in Spain, where marijuana is legal.
Nevertheless, parents and anti-drug organizations are already enraged by the irresponsible attitude of the artist, saying that such comments will surely have a strong impact on his younger fans. A publicist for George Michael said that he has nothing to say in relation to the incident.
