The other day marked what some are calling a new era in the movie industry: The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm for the whopping amount of $4.05 billion (€3.12 billion). Most of that sum will be going to charity.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, a publicist for George Lucas, the sole owner of Lucasfilm, announced that the money would be put to very good use.

Lucas has always been a very generous philanthropist, often speaking out for the need of more funds invested in education, so he’s now putting his money where his mouth is (which isn’t to say he hasn’t done it before).

“George Lucas has expressed his intention, in the event the deal closes, to donate the majority of the proceeds to his philanthropic endeavors,” the publicist says, refusing to go into other details.

With Lucasfilm, Disney now owns the “Star Wars” franchise, literally one of the biggest in Hollywood. It’s already announced “Episode 7” for 2015.
