Fans of the long-running medical drama on NBC, “ER,” are in for a special treat, if the reports that are currently making the rounds in the online media are even a bit accurate. RadarOnline and People magazine claim they have it from well-placed sources that George Clooney will be reprising his Dr. Ross part in the last episodes of the 15th season of “ER.”

This is not the first time that Clooney, now miles away from a career only in television, being ranked as one of the most bankable actors of our times, is rumored to be set for a comeback in the part that virtually put him on the map. However, as opposed to last year, when he was also reportedly considering a return on the small screen, this time his appearance is more or less certain, the only thing to confirm it being an official statement from the network.

Neither NBC nor anyone involved in the show has sustained this yet, it is said, because they are trying to keep Dr. Ross’ return as much of a secret as possible. This is the show’s 15th and last season, and the network has plans to make the departure as memorable as it can – Dr. Ross returning for a couple of episodes, it seems, is just the perfect way to do that, word in the industry has it.

“George Clooney has agreed to come back to the show that launched his career: ‘ER.’ Sources close to the series tell People that ‘ER’ co-creator John Wells has ordered a closed set to keep Clooney’s appearance under wraps. It’s not known how many episodes will feature Clooney, as the show films its final season. Neither NBC nor Warner Bros. reps would comment, nor did Clooney’s publicist.” People magazine writes in today’s issue.

Moreover, other sources are reporting that it’s not only Clooney who will make a comeback, as also will Julianne Margulies, who played his love interest and left the show shortly after Clooney, in May 2000. Because of the fact that there’s talk of a “closed set,” on which all cell phones are banned and only few cast members are allowed, there is speculation that the show could actually end with a romantic reunion of Dr. Ross and Nurse Hathaway. But do stay tuned here for more.
