The tabloids have been having a field day throwing around all these crazy suppositions that George Clooney was ready to switch Hollywood red carpets for the White House, but there hasn't been one shred of real evidence, other than the fact that Clooney would make for a handsome president.

Today, the Daily Mail claims that it has obtained that shred of evidence by speaking with Clooney's family, his aunt to be more exact, and she says that the actor definitely has his eyes set on a political career.

Not only that, but also Amal Alamuddin, Clooney's fiancée and wife-to-be, is said to be in the political game, and is going to see him and support him through his campaign. We've already established why Amal Alamuddin is perfect First Lady material and why by marrying her, George is improving his political chances tenfold.

Now Starla Clooney says that “George will run for office now, especially after his marriage to Amal, as that will open so many doors for him. At least around here,” referring to her hometown of Dayton, Ohio.

Political ambitions in the Clooney family aren't uncommon, it turns out. We find out that George's father, Nick, a former TV news anchorman now at the tender age of 80, also fought for a seat in the US House of Representatives for the Democrats in 2004 but didn't meet with success.

His son is also a convinced Democrat, except analysts think that he has a far better chance at actually becoming the next Governor of California and from there on, to the president's Oval Office.

Starla reckons that “being married will make George look more grounded and less of a playboy and that will be a big boost for him. And make him look more serious.”

So far, Clooney hasn't made official his intentions to run for office, but media outlets have him gunning for the Governorship of California, like other actors before him, the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan, who actually went on to successfully land the title of American President.

Apart from the good looks and the pedigree, Clooney also has the right connections, as he's very good friends with Barack Obama, giving him that extra edge in case he does consider about running for office.

The actor seems to be the only one in denial about all his political prospects. He is quoted as saying at one point that he would never run for public office since he'd led a wild life in which he had slept with numerous women, done too many drugs, and attended too many parties.
