Even if he had more interest in politics, George Clooney would not be able to run for President because he bedded too many women and did too many drugs to be the perfect candidate, he says in a brand new interview with Newsweek.

The actor, who has been spending a lot of time lately in Sudan, talks about his involvement in charity organizations in the area, how he hopes his fame will bring attention to issues here and why he’d never run for President.

He believes he can do more for the people here by using his celebrity status to bring the attention of the media onto their problems than by getting involved in politics.

“I didn’t live my life in the right way for politics, you know,” George Clooney says, in a statement that will probably come as a shock to many of his fans, at least because of that last part.

“I [bedded] too many chicks and did too many drugs, and that’s the truth,” he says.

Hypothetically speaking though, if he were to get involved, he “would start from the beginning by saying, ‘I did it all. I drank the bong water. Now let’s talk about issues.’ That’s gonna be my campaign slogan: ‘I drank the bong water.’?”

Being a star who gets this much attention from the paparazzi works just fine for Clooney, who says something along the lines that “if they’re to follow me everywhere, they might as well follow me here.”

Ever since he started to become more involved in issues in Sudan, Clooney has learned how to play the media by using his celebrity status to divert attention from himself to the aforementioned issues.

He’s not the only one playing this game either: Bono does it and so do Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Ben Affleck, Clooney points out.

“Celebrity can help focus news media where they have abdicated their responsibility. We can’t make policy, but we can ‘encourage’ politicians more than ever before,” he says.

“There is more attention on celebrity than ever before – and there is a use for that besides selling products,” Clooney points out.
