Gentoo Linux 11.0 Live DVD has been released. The first release in a year and a half, it comes with the latest stable versions of most packages included as well as a couple of new features. The live environment is now available to everyone for testing, but installing Gentoo Linux 11.0 takes a bit more work and experience that with most Linux distros these days.

"Gentoo Linux is proud to announce the availability of a new LiveDVD to celebrate the continued collaboration between Gentoo users and developers. The LiveDVD features a superb list of packages, some of which are listed below," the official announcement read.

Interestingly enough, the live environment is actually quite flexible. For one, it uses AUFS to enable users to install new packages while running the Live DVD. It also enables users to set up a persistent home, so their changes are not lost every time they reboot. This is especially useful when using an USB drive rather than a DVD.

The Live DVD is available in a dual 32-bit and 64-bit version or a stand-alone 64-bit version. The first will enable you to use the DVD on both 32-bit and 64-bit machines.
