The number of solar-powered devices available on the market is slowly but surely increasing, as more and more manufacturers realize the fact that our own sun can prove to be quite a powerful source of energy, especially for portable devices. However, that's not the case with the device that you're about to see as follows, since the SlimStar 820 Solargizer from Genius is nothing more than your normal, everyday multimedia desktop combo, with a bit of a twist: it features an adjustable solar device.

I'm not really sure just why Genius has decided to develop such a product, since it's pretty much common knowledge that
desktop PCs are generally hidden away in the darkest corners of one's house, where there's generally little (if any) solar light. In any case, that shouldn't worry the users, since the system comes with two back up sources, namely an USB cable charger and battery that will prevent any power shortages in the absence of any light.

Leaving aside the “solar-powered” gimmick, this keyboard + mouse system has some pretty interesting features, as for example the 17 programmable hotkeys, the mouse's 1600/800dpi resolution, as well as the very important power saving mode, which will assure the fact that the batteries' life will be extended to the maximum possible value.

Here are the most important features and specifications the SlimStar 820 Solargizer from Genius has to offer:

- keyboard dimensions: 450 x 190 x 325 mm;
- mouse dimensions: 116 x 61 x 39 mm;
- overall weight: 927 grams;
- broadcasting frequency: 2.4GHz;
- mouse: features 4 buttons and a 4D scrolling wheel: left/right, up/down;
- mouse sensor: laser engine, 1600/800dpi resolution;
- keyboard: features a solar device for charging, as well as 4 AA alkaline batteries.

This very interesting combo has already been awarded the CES Innovation 2007 Award at CES 2007, and will be available worldwide starting from 170 US dollars, which is not that big a price for protecting the environment, at least to some extent.
