Coming later this year

Rock Band has gone into full hype machine mode, with Harmonix and MTV Games saying that Green Day: Rock Band will be coming on June 8 for the Nintendo Wii, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 and also announcing that they plan to release the much rumored Rock Band 3 at some point later in 2010, probably in time for the holidays. Yet, Activision, the publisher of the Guitar Hero rival franchise, has not talked much about launching a full music game this year, except for a small reference in an earnings report, which did not even mention the game by name.

But help has come from a very different direction with Gene Simmons, the long time bass player for glam rock band KISS, saying in the Game On show that runs on British television that “I'm the voice of Guitar Hero 6.”

The remark arrived as part of a bigger interview during which the celebrity also advised budding guitar players to pick up the Gene Simmons Axe controller and steal their technique from better players.

Activision Blizzard has not commented on the statement made by Gene Simmons and will probably not talk about something that seems to be a helpful hype generating rumor. The publisher, through the voice of its Chief Executive Officer, Bobby Kotick, has already said that it will be decreasing the number of Guitar Hero franchise games that it releases in 2010 and it’s clear that at least two of them will be AAA releases.

One of them is already known to be the follow-up to DJ Hero, which will use the same turn table controller as the first one and will offer more music to play around with. Guitar Hero 6 is likely the other game that is being prepared, unless Activision Blizzard is readying to put together a Guitar Hero: KISS band-themed title.
