Gemalto, one of the world's leaders in the digital security industry, has announced its collaboration with Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI). The purpose of this collaboration is to enable the Mobile Financial Services from Gemalto on TI's OMAP platform and M-Shield security technology for mobile devices. Gemalto's solution has an integrated security platform that allows device manufacturers and carriers to provide a secure mobile financial transactions environment for their customers.

"As mobile devices become increasingly personal, end users continue to share and access more sensitive information on the go, including mobile financial services," Fred Cohen, director, wireless OMAP ecosystem at TI, said. "TI’s OMAP platform and Trusted Logic’s Trusted Foundations software together provide a strong balance of security and functionality for manufacturers and operators to increase security, instill confidence in their offerings and protect customers’ assets. This allows end users to experience rich mobile user interfaces in the secure application environment provided by our combined offering."

The platform that the Mobile Financial Services solution runs on is TI's OMAP trusted execution environment, which also includes the Trusted Foundations application provided by Trusted Logic. Considered one of the best secured environments on the market, this solution offers advanced protection for the financial-based applications used on TI OMAP processor-equipped smartphones. Users have the option of enabling two-factor authentication applications (user and phone), which will require them to supply a personal identification number (PIN) in order to obtain access to the desired financial applications.

"Gemalto’s Mobile Financial Services applications are currently used by millions of people around the globe," Philippe Vallée, executive vice president, Telecommunications Business Unit, Gemalto, stated. "This partnership with an industry leader like TI to place secure software within an OMAP platform provides the end customer of our combined offering the ability to enjoy the convenience of banking from their mobile device while resting assured that the application they are using is secure."

The acquisition of Trusted Logic in 2009 was one of the most important steps in Gemalto's strategy to become the leader in the digital security solutions and associated software/services to the company's customer base. The Trusted Foundations solution provided by Trusted Logic offers a safe environment designed to secure various types of sensitive applications on handsets. The technology developed by Trusted Logic is now adopted by most of the top handset manufacturers for use on systems like Andriod, Symbian or Windows Mobile.
