Gemalto, the leading provider of digital security solutions, has announced today that its UICC (Universal Identity Cryptographic Computer) and R-UIM (Removable User Identity Module) cards are being supplied to the three major mobile phone carriers in China, which are getting ready to commercially launch their 3G networks in the country during the ongoing year.

The company has also said that it is the first provider that has achieved full qualification to deliver its solutions to the three different 3G wireless standards that will be used in the country, including CDMA EVDO, TD-SCDMA and WCDMA. At the same time, Gemalto has also announced that the deliveries are being made via its joint ventures in China.

Given the fact that 3G is meant to offer increased performance and usability, the UICC and R-UIM portable secure personal devices can deliver more benefits this way. The reliable connectivity to the network is offered through secure user identification embedded applications, while the operator’s capacity to reach its target subscribers is offered via value-added applications available on the cards.

These applications, the company says, include multimedia content distribution, mobile payment or mobile TV access, yet these are only a few examples. A wider range of value-added applications would benefit from the faster bandwidth offered through the new networks, while also increasing responsiveness and ease of use.

“We are extremely honored to play a part in China’s telecommunication history by supplying our most advanced technology to China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom through our partners” said Tan Teck Lee, president, Gemalto Asia. “With the current pace of technological advancement subscribers have increasingly higher expectations of their mobile lifestyle experience. The UICC and R-UIM are the perfect platforms for us to support deployment of the wide-spectrum of 3G value-added services that operators will offer to their subscribers.“
