After 10 seasons of watching Dr. Christina Yang save lives and getting to know her as an individual, fans of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” had to say goodbye to the character, played so brilliantly by Sandra Oh, on the season 10 finale. The empty spot left by Oh will be filled by Geena Davis.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Davis has signed on for a story arc in the upcoming season 11, which premieres this fall. She will play a surgeon at Grey Sloan Memorial.

“Grey is also bringing back Kate Burton to reprise her role as Meredith's mother Ellis Grey, with Kelly McCreary, who plays Margaret Pierce, expected to heavily recur in the new season,” THR says, listing two more surprises for fans.

With “Grey” moving on after Oh’s departure, fans should not lose all hope of seeing Dr. Yang again because the actress herself said in May that she was not against the idea of coming back, at some point down the road.

However, for the time being, she was simply too “exhausted” to continue, and after 10 amazing years, had finally decided the time had come for her to move on to other projects. Still, the actress said, she was grateful for the love and support of the fans, and last but not least, for having had the chance to work with such a wonderful team.
