Geeksphone, the company behind the first two Firefox OS-based smartphones, is getting ready for the launch of a handset that would run under Android as well, in addition to Mozilla’s platform, none other than the Geeksphone Revolution that was officially announced in late December.

The smartphone is expected to become available for purchase before the end of the first quarter of the year, but a specific launch date hasn’t been provided as of now.

Today, however, users can head over to Geeksphone’s website to subscribe to info regarding the release of this device. Pre-sales should kick off in the not too distant future, that’s for sure.

“The Revolution is not only more powerful than most, but also a first-of-its-kind. Geeksphone MultiOS technology allows you to choose your operating system,” the company notes.

“Starting with Google Android operating system, you can seamlessly switch to Boot2Gecko by Mozilla, or any other community-supported flavor of an OS. You choose, and we will keep you updated thanks to our 1-click OTA system.”

The specs list of this device was unveiled last month, yet those of you who might have missed the announcement should know that the upcoming handset will be powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor.

Geeksphone Revolution won’t be a large handset, as it will feature a 4.7-inch touchscreen, but it should offer a great viewing experience nonetheless.

Moreover, the smartphone was announced with 1GB of RAM inside, 4GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

On the back, the handset packs an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash, paired with a 2MP front camera for video calling.

The specs list of this device also includes a 2000mAh battery, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, built-in GPS receiver, and HSDPA up to 21Mbps, HSUPA up to 5.76Mbps connectivity.

As mentioned above, those of you interested in the upcoming smartphone should head over to Geeksphone’s website to learn more on it.
