Mobile phone users out there interested in taking the Firefox OS for a spin on a slightly more powerful device can now pre-order a new handset from Geeksphone, which comes to the market under the name of Peak+.

The consumer-oriented smartphone was unveiled with a 4.3-inch qHD display, the same as its predecessor, as well as with a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon CPU, but sports 1GB of RAM inside, double than the original Geeksphone Peak.

“Improved version of the Peak, the Peak+ ‘based on Mozilla technology’ has 1 GB RAM, a qHD 4.3" screen and a 1800mAh battery. The Peak+ is the ‘Open Web’ leading terminal,” Geeksphone notes on its website.

The specifications list of the new device also includes 4GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, and an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back. There is also a 2MP front camera included in the package.

Furthermore, the Geeksphone Peak+ packs an 1800mAh battery and, as Engadget notes, runs under the latest Firefox OS flavor, namely version 1.1.

The specifications list of the smartphone also includes Wi-Fi N, Bluetooth 2.1 EDR, Radio FM, Light & Prox. Sensor, G-Sensor, Compass, GPS, MicroUSB, and Flash for the back camera.

The new device arrives on the market with support for UMTS 850/1900/2100 (3G HSPA) connectivity, as well as for GSM 850/900/1800/1900 (2G EDGE).

The Geeksphone Peak+ is available for reservations at the moment on the company’s website at €149 ($197), and should start shipping sometime in mid-September. However, Geeksphone notes that the pre-order volumes will be limited.

Unfortunately, the company did not provide specific info on which countries will be receiving the new mobile phone, though chances are that it will be mainly targeted at emerging markets, the same as other handsets running under Firefox OS were. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
